What is CAT?

Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) is a structured, collaborative talking therapy that focuses on how we relate to ourselves and others.

It helps you understand patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving that may have developed earlier in life and are now causing difficulties.

How CAT works

As children, we develop coping strategies to manage difficult experiences. These patterns can stay with us into adulthood—even when they are no longer helpful.

CAT helps you to:

  • Recognise unhelpful patterns

  • Understand where they come from

  • Make sense of your experiences

  • Develop new, more helpful ways of relating

A collaborative process

CAT is a time-limited therapy, and is tailored to you - we will work together to understand your story and identify the changes you would like to make. The aim is to reduce distress and help you feel more able to live your life in a way that feels right for you.

WORKING WITH TRAINEES

If you are training in CAT, I have experience of offering therapy for CAT trainees, an aspect of the work I really enjoy. Please get in touch if you’d like to find out more.

I am also qualified in EMDR for focused work on helping traumatic experiences where the memories are an ongoing trigger or cause distress.
